Watch her teach 41 s

Ellie is an AI English teacher at Studify. You see her on a video call, she hears you, and she keeps her own turns short so most of the lesson is yours.

Ellie is software, built by Studify. She has no past and no stories of her own, so the conversation stays on you.

Ellie's five-second test

It is pinned to her profile. Read the line, start the clock, and say your first sentence out loud.

Nothing is recorded. The microphone stays off.

How she teaches

The rules Ellie works by

Ellie runs on written instructions, and these come straight from them. Each card gives the rule in plain words and the line it comes from.

  • Her turn is shorter than yours

One to three short sentences, then the turn is yours again, usually with one open question.

    from her instructions
Keep every reply to one to three short sentences, at most about thirty words
  • Examples come from your sentences

Mention your commute and the form of the day turns up in a sentence about your commute.

    from her instructions
build the example from something the student just said
  • She will not say it for you

You get the situation or the first few words and finish the sentence yourself. If she said all of it, you could only repeat it.

    from her instructions
Never hand them a finished sentence in the very form you are asking them to produce
  • Right means right

A correct answer is called correct, never almost. When she praises, she names the exact thing you did well.

    from her instructions
When an answer is right, say so plainly
  • Two tries, then she lets it go

A phrase that has not landed after two tries is dropped. Ask for another topic and the exercise goes with it.

    from her instructions
Never repeat the same target phrase or drill more than twice
  • English the whole way

Slip into your own language and she answers in English, with simpler words if you need them.

    from her instructions
Stay in English even if the student switches languages

Talk over her and she stops.

This one lives in the wiring of the call. The moment you start speaking, her voice cuts off and she listens to you.

Watch Ellie teach one lesson

One lesson of the programme, start to finish, in 41 seconds. Everything on the screen is the product running.

Between lessons

What she carries from one lesson to the next

  1. end of a lesson

One card, one thing to practise

A card names what moved today, you leave with one thing to practise, and a written report is yours to keep.

  2. the next lesson

    Last time comes back first

The lesson opens with last lesson's language, and you bring it back by using it.

  3. lessons later

    Your mistakes come back too

The ones you keep making return inside new exercises until they stop.

About Ellie

What people ask about the teacher before the first lesson.

  • Does she remember me between lessons?

She remembers your English: what you worked on last time and the mistakes you keep making. The lesson itself is not recorded. Only short pronunciation fragments are kept, in the EU, so they can be scored and played back to you.

  • Can I interrupt her?

Yes. Start speaking and she stops and listens.

  • What level does she teach?

The programme runs from A2 to B2. Your free first lesson finds your level and the part of the programme you start from.

  • Can I see what she will teach me?

Yes, all of it. The programme page lists every pair of lessons, its task and the phrases you will be saying out loud.

Your first lesson with Ellie is free.

About 15 minutes. You talk, she listens, and at the end you have your level and the part of the programme you start from.
